Here here. As ax ex podcaster turned journalist covering woke progressive policies in Canada, I find it doesn't matter how well informed or well crafted my arguments are, they are simply dismissed.
So great that these conferences are becoming more common! Unfortunately, I miss out on all these great conferences, as I am a PhD candidate all the way down in New Zealand, and our academic system is still gripped by a strong orthodoxy. On that topic, I actually sent you an email today through your academic profile on the UoB website. Would love to hear back form you!
There may well be a large unidentified group in NZ who believe in old fashioned things like truth and knowledge. We need somewhere to coalesce around Eric's principles and escape from the suffocating group think. Hope you are successful in a dialogue with Eric
This authoritarian approach can go so far. A well organized minority can only control the show while we are asleep at the wheel. Hopefully we can wake enough people up! I'm starting my own personal crusade, by just opening dialogue wherever I can hoping to find and encourage like minded people. All the best with your journey. We may cross paths again...
I find it surprising how little public facing push back there has been in NZ to the academic orthodoxy. We seem well behind the rest of the "West". The repercussions must obviously be considered too severe to even be raising a bias problem imho
Kiwi here. We have little public pushback against The Latest Thing From Overseas for the same reason that the Greenland Vikings built churches that were the biggest in the world (relative to the size of their population).
We are miles away from “the world” physically, so we have a pathological need to do the latest trend, and do it more, to demonstrate to ourselves that we’re with “the world”.
Well, we saw what happened to the Listener 7! The orthodoxy is baked into not only academia but government bureaucracy—it determines who gets government funding, and also it's baked into regulatory bodies (such as the recent debate about the licensing requirements for real estate agents), and is even forced upon private businesses who could be legally on the hook if they aren't socially progressive enough. We might be one of the worst countries in the world for this.
Fantastic project. A few months ago, I read your book "Taboo", where you already announced that a manifesto was in the process. Good to hear that the project turned out well.

Well done sir. This is so impressive that it gives me hope of a saner society even in the UK.

Heterodox Academy's NZ community used to be active apparently, but its dead now!

Wonderful idea. Not a moment too soon.
